The Chamber of Healing: When Old Patterns Return, We Get to Choose Again

We are living through some wild times. Everywhere I look, I hear stories of people experiencing big emotions, uncertainty, change, and old wounds being stirred up. As a spiritual teacher and coach, I see it in the people I work with. And, if I am being completely honest, I see it in myself too.

One of the things I have come to understand about healing is that awareness does not mean we never struggle again. It doesn't mean that once we've done the work, we will never find ourselves caught in an old pattern or feeling triggered by something from the past. What changes is our ability to recognize what is happening and meet ourselves with compassion instead of judgment.

Recently, I realized I had been experiencing an emotional dip that I wasn't fully allowing myself to see. I had been telling myself I was simply resting after the launch of my book. And while I probably did need some rest, when I became more honest with myself, I could see there was something underneath it.

Fear. Doubt. Old wounds.

A painful experience earlier in the year had activated some deep feelings around judgment, rejection, and belonging. Then came the book launch. I was excited and proud, but I also felt incredibly exposed. What if people didn't like it? What if I failed? What if I was judged?

Without really realizing it, I began to pull back. My protectors were doing what protectors do. They were trying to keep me safe.

And then I pulled an oracle card from the Inner Temple Deck.

Actually, I pulled the same card I had already pulled for myself, friends, clients, and our Integration Circle.

The Inner Temple Oracle

Chamber of Healing.

At that point, I had to laugh and say, "Okay, I hear you."

The message of the card spoke directly to what I was experiencing. Healing is always happening because healing is change. We are continually growing, transforming, and returning to wholeness. Healing isn't about becoming a person who is finally fixed. It is about allowing ourselves to change, evolve, and grow.

That distinction feels important. So often we think healing means getting to a place where nothing bothers us anymore. Where we don't get triggered. Where we have finally figured ourselves out. I don't believe that is how it works.

I believe healing gives us the awareness to recognize ourselves with more love.

For me, the awareness was realizing that I had been pulling away because I was afraid. I had been questioning myself and becoming less comfortable in some social situations. And instead of judging myself for that, I could simply notice it. Ahhh, there you are again.

That is one of the most powerful things the 9-Step Recover Your Soul Process has taught me. We can discover an old pattern without becoming the pattern. We can see a belief that no longer serves us without believing it is who we are. We can recognize a wound without allowing that wound to make our choices for us.

And then we get to choose again.

As I was recording the audio version of my book, something unexpected happened. Hearing my own words brought me into another layer of healing. I found myself forgiving myself for the places where I had slipped back into old patterns. I wasn't failing. I was learning. Of course. Of course I am human. Of course there are still places within me that need love. Of course life is going to continue offering opportunities for deeper awareness.

Even after eight years of sobriety and years of doing this work, I am still learning how to live it.

And honestly, I think that is beautiful.

I feel like I have walked out of a dust storm that was clouding my connection to my Higher Self. I can see more clearly again. And what I see is that I don't need to make anyone else understand what I believe or see the world the way I do. I don't need to be less of myself because I am afraid of being judged. I get to choose love for myself.

Maybe that is part of what so many of us are being invited into right now. Not fixing ourselves. Not becoming someone who never struggles. But becoming more honest with ourselves. More compassionate. More willing to look beneath the surface and ask what is really happening inside.

We cannot change the past.

But we can change the meaning we give it. And when that changes, everything changes.

So if you find yourself feeling more tender lately, if an old pattern has returned, if something has triggered feelings you thought you had already worked through, I invite you to pause before judging yourself.

Take a breath.

Get curious and ask yourself:

What is asking to be seen?

What is ready to be released?

What part of me needs love right now?

And then remember that you have another choice. You can open your heart. You can reconnect with your Higher Self. You can choose again.

That is the Chamber of Healing.

Not a place where we become perfect or finished, but a sacred space within ourselves where we are willing to keep growing, keep changing, and keep remembering who we truly are.

And if you are there right now, know that you are not alone.

We are in this together.

With so much love,

Rev Rachel 🧡
